So you’ve decided to stay in Benjor Beach Club for the holidays. The next step towards achieving an ideal holiday weekend is to explore as much destinations within Vanuatu. In today’s entry, we walk you through some of Vanuatu’s ideal tourist spots and activities that might just float your boat.

First stop is at Ekasup Cultural Village.  Priced at 4000 (adult) and 2000 VT (child). Here, Futuna islanders talk about and demonstrate their traditional lifestyle at their kastom village. Ideally, Friday nights call for 'Feast Night', where guests get treated to shells of kava, entertainment, and buffet food. This Port Vila destination is open to visitors from Mondays through Saturdays, 9 AM and 2 PM. You may contact Nafonu Tatoka Tours at +678 7746734, +678 24217, or tatokatours@vanuatu.com.vu. Book a tour a day in advance.

If you are a fan of waterfalls, then don’t miss the scenic Mele Cascades. A famous, not to mention, picture perfect swimming spot is 10 kilometres away from Port Vila. Mele Cascades is a series of clear aquamarine pools terrace up the hillside, culminating in an impressive 35-metre waterfall flowing into a natural plunge pool. A slippery path with guide ropes directs you to the top. In case you’re wondering, toilets, change rooms, and a cafe-bar with free wi-fi are available at the entrance. Evergreen will take you along Lini Highway, Port Vila. To reserve your slots, contact +678 23050 or visit www.evergreenvanuatu.com.

Perhaps a trip to the National Museum of Vanuatu at Rue d'Artois will prove educational to holiday makers. Open from Mondays through Saturdays (M-F: 9AM - 4.30PM, S: 9AM - 12NN), this excellent museum boasts a vast collection of traditional artefacts such as the slit gongs or slit drums they refer to as tamtam , outrigger canoes, ceremonial headdresses, shell jewellery, and Lapita and Wusi pottery. There’s also a photographic display on the unearthing of Chief Roi Mata's burial site. The museum offers one-hour guided tours, which include a traditional instrument demonstration and sand drawing.
