Vanuatu’s Best Surf Spots
Surfing is a relatively new passion on Vanuatu, but those that are willing to travel slightly around the islands will be rewarded with hollow barrel waves, temperate waters and excellent South Easterly trade winds between May and October. Let’s take a look at some of the best surf spots to check out close to our Port Vila accommodation.
Pango may be most famous for its incredible dive site, but on the outskirts of Pango Point, surf enthusiasts can also take advantage of left and right hollow barrelling waves with an average of 40-50 metre ride length. The site is within easy driving distance of our holiday resort Vanuatu, don’t forget to check it out during your stay with us!
At high tide you can catch good barrelling waves with a ride length of 40-50 metres at this local surf spot, not far from Benjor Beach Club Port Vila accommodation. You can expect a good wave size of 6-8 foot at the height of summer and at least 4-6 foot the rest of the year. As with all the island’s best surf destinations, the main hazards to look out for are reef sharks, sunburn and the sharpness of the coral itself underfoot.
During your break, you can pay a visit to the friendly village of Eratap, and borrow a canoe to row the short distance out to Eratap Island. The waters surrounding the small island produce some good righthander and hollow waves, so why not pack a picnic and make a day of it during your stay at our Port Vila resort?
