3 Handy Vanuatu Travel Tips

Although Vanuatu is just a short journey from Australia, it can still feel like a very ‘foreign’ far-flung island to first time visitors. Of course, that’s part of the appeal! If you’re travelling to our Port Vila resort for the first time, here are some travel tips to help you make the most of your time in this tropical paradise.

Kava Bars

Most guests at our accommodation Vanuatu are keen to try kava, which, if you don’t know, is an ancient drink made from ground pepper root. The brew is said to have mind clearing properties and certainly gives you a nice buzz, although the taste is not for everyone. If you want to try it for yourself, you’ll find plenty of kava bars around Port Vila, and these venues typically offer very affordable snacks and meals too.

Water

The water in most of Vanuatu is safe to drink, except in the more rural remote areas. We recommend guests at our Port Vila resort stock up on bottled water to take on jungle hikes because things can get thirsty pretty quickly in the humid tropical weather.

Tanna Coffee

This home grown coffee tastes great and is also deliciously cheap. You can pick it up at the local markets for a fraction of the price you would pay in Australia or New Zealand. We also recommend guests at our accommodation Port Vila Vanuatu pay a visit to a local coffee plantation during your trip.
