The Naghol land diving ritual on Pentecost Island is famous worldwide and a must-see for anyone on Vanuatu during the months April and June. This awe-inspiring ritual sees local men and boys as young as seven years old jump from a 20 to 30 metre-high manmade tower with only a vine attached to their legs, and it’s this ritual that first inspired bungee jumping!

The Naghol land diving ritual takes place to celebrate the yam harvest and is also a fertility rite for men. The incredible manmade tower from which the men and boys jump from takes five weeks to build, and uses only natural materials from the region’s forest! It’s a magnificent cultural ceremony to behold, featuring exhilarating music and dancing as the ceremony builds up to the dive. The Naghol land diving ritual is a once in a lifetime experience to be a part of, and for those visiting Vanuatu this Autumn it’s not to be missed!
