Exploring Espiritu Santo

Located just north of Port Vila, Espiritu Santo is the largest island in Vanuatu and fascinating to explore. If you’re travelling to our Port Vila resort for your next holiday, we highly recommend you put a day aside to check it out.

This beautiful island is much less visited by tourists than Efate. Since it once served as a US army base during World War 2, it’s main draw cards are the superb dive sites in the local waters, including the world renowned President SS Coolidge. As well as the shipwreck, all kinds of fascinating military equipment was dropped into the ocean by the Americans, which makes for some pretty spectacular diving. Divers staying at our accommodation Port Vila Vanuatu always return with rave reviews.

Apart from fantastic dive sites, one of the things the island is most famous for is its beautiful Blue Hole lagoons. The water in these small freshwater lakes is so bright blue you would swear it had been photo shopped – when in fact, of course, the colour looks so brilliant because of minerals in the limestone. Either way, they are pretty magical places to visit and swim in during your stay at our Port Vila resort. The Matevulu Blue Hole is particularly fun, thanks to the couple or Tarzan-style rope swings the locals have set up. Take a swing and plunge yourself into the cool water for a refreshing open-water swim, Vanuatu style! When you’re not cooling off in a lake, you’re going to love exploring the charming fishing villages dotted around the island. Stop off somewhere nice for a lunch of freshly prepared lobster, before heading back to our accommodation Vanuatu.
