Exploring Vanuatu’s Islands Part 3

Guests at our accommodation Port Vila Vanuatu can take a scenic cruise, helicopter or aeroplane ride out to Efate’s neighbouring islands to discover all that this tropical archipelago has to offer.

Aneityum Island

This southerly island has a mountainous landscape and rich, volcanic soils. The island is most famous for its magnificent sandalwood trees, which flourish here thanks to the temperate climate. Guests at our holiday resort Vanuatu may be surprised to learn that the island’s population today stands at just 550, down from thousands many years ago. Traders descended on the island in the previous century to take advantage of the fragrant sandalwood that grows abundantly here. The magnificent forests remain, as well as 80 species of orchid, beautiful waterfalls and several hot springs. The airport is located on the smaller neighbouring island of Inyeung (Mystery Island.)

Pentecost Island

Pentecost Island is most famous for its land diving ritual (Nagol or N'gol) which takes place every Saturday between April and June. Seen as precursor to bungy jumping, the tradition sees local men and boys propel themselves from manmade wooden towers secured only by a vine attached to their legs. If you’re visiting our accommodation Port Vila Vanuatu during this time, be sure to check out this awe- inspiring fertility ritual, which has become famous all over the world. The island is just under 60 minutes flight from Port Vila, which is a short drive from our accommodation Vanuatu.
